Architecture
Mexico City’s iconic buildings
Despite the growing international reputations of local masters, such as TEN and Higuera & Sánchez Architects, what springs to mind when we think of 20th-century Mexican architecture is still the work of Luis Barragán. Examples of his colourful style, tagged “emotional architecture”, are scattered across the city. In one narrow, unprepossessing street lies Casa Barragán/Ortega, built in the 1940s, which marked the end of his funcionalist experiments and modestly anticipateshis masterpiece, Casa Barragán, which he built seven years later, for his own use, further up the same street.
Beside the Casa Barragán, visit Ciudad Universitaria, Torre Latinoamericana, Palacio Postal, the Juárez Complex, Espacio Escultórico and Santa Fe, the American dream in Mexico City.
